The "Battle Song of the Republic", informally titled "Onward, defenders!" for its first verse, is the national anthem of Ichoria. The song was written after the declaration of war against the nascent Ichorian Republic by a royalist coalition led by the Achysian Empire and the Ichorian Kingdom-in-Exile, where the royal family had taken refuge in the aftermath of the Hatheralic Invasion of Ichoria.
The song quickly grew in popularity with the army and citizenry alike, becoming the official anthem of the Republic shortly thereafter.
Lyrics
Onward, defenders! (translation)
Onward, defenders,
your homeland is surrounded,
Drive away these harbingers
Of barbaric tyrannies.
Chorus
Take up arms!
Take up arms, unvanquished citizens!
Take up arms!
Who sends now this horde,
This torrent of beasts?
For whom have the vile chains
Of slavery, been prepared?
Chorus
May the enemy tremble,
upon seeing our ferocity.
An entire people resolved,
To live in liberty!
Chorus
Pledge now with solemn hearts,
an oath to the motherland.
You who have cut your shackles,
Must now cut down the invaders!
Chorus
