The New Democratic Front is a centrist and liberal party in Kathia. Founded in 1960, it originally struggled for votes in the 1962 elections, however made large gains in 1967 and became the leading party in 1972. Since the 1970s, the New Democratic Front (VDI) has frequently been the largest party in Kathia except from 1987-2002 when the Mutualist League held the majority. Since 2002, the New Democratic Front has been the leading party in the government, and has been frequently characterized as a "Big Tent" party due to its attraction of a wide range of ideologies.
