The National Liberal Party (Gaullican: Parti Libéral National) is one of the three major contemporary political parties in Valentir. Tracing its heritage back to Henry Thurlow's People's Party of Westcliff, the modern-day National Liberal Party was founded in 1971 by supporters of Ian Middleton, running on a platform of populism, social conservatism, and economic nationalism. The party achieved moderate success in the 1972 election, forming the official opposition to the Westcliff Progressive Republican Party. Middleton would become Premier in 1979 after the party won a super-majority in the provincial legislature, winning all but 11 seats. The party's electoral success was short lived, however, and lost all of the seats it gained in the 1983 election following a series of financial scandals and an economic recession destroyed the party's popularity.

After a long political hiatus the National Liberals saw a resurgence as a centrist and social liberal movement. Under the leadership of Brendan H. Lodge IV, it reestablished itself in Westcliff provincial politics, winning its first seats in 15 years following the 1997 election. Capitalizing on the immense unpopularity with both establishment parties in Westcliff, the National Liberals achieved further electoral success following a nationally acclaimed rebranding campaign and tilt towards progressivism and populism. Securing enough seats to form a minority coalition government with the Westcliff Green Party, Lodge became Premier in 1999, and have since governed the province uninterrupted alongside the Greens. Originally registered as a provincial party, the National Liberals entered the federal political arena in 2010 under the leadership of Gregor McGrath, the former Deputy Prime Minister from 2001 to 2004, and Westcliff Premier William Ashton. Winning 14 seats in the Valentirian general election, 2014, the party's momentum and rising national profile resulted in the establishment of branches in Harwich and New Ardougne. Several prominent politicians from the Progressive Republican Party and Valentirian Federation of Labour defected to the Nationals following the controversial 2017 election, chief among them being former Speaker Lucrezia Fiorentini and former President Henry Baxter II. The party has promised to contest the 2020 presidential election, with several senior party members expressing interest in running, including William Ashton, Gregor McGrath, Martin de Michel and Christina Grosvenor. The NLP has formed electoral district associations (EDAs) in all of Valentir's 600 divisions, and plans to run a full slate of candidates in the X Valentirian general election.

The National Liberal Party's manifesto officially describes it as a big tent and grassroots political movement, advocating for electoral reform, liberal social policies, and environmentalism. Social democratic, liberal, and third way economic policies are the most popular within the party. Its big tent nature has created several internal factions within the party, as well as official caucuses amongst the Parliamentary NLP. Characterized by the media as both populist and left-wing populist, specifically in both style and rhetoric, the NLP hasn't officially adopted the label.
