The Martin heavy machinegun is the main heavy machinegun used by the absolute royal federation chambered in the heavy 16x80mm bullets. Used both on airplanes, tanks, ships as well as the royal guard as a infantry support weapon and is as a result one of the most used weapons in the Imerian krigsmakten only rivalled by the KVG-09 in terms of numbers.
Background
In the beginning of the Imerian civil war so did the royalist government issue a royal decree that a new machinegun was needed and the larger noble families went to work, the first prototype of the Martin tyngre kulsprute gevar was one of many weapons that was demonstrated for the military advisory and despite some minor flaws like weight problems and a tendency for jamming when exposed to dirt so were the Martin the weapon that was adopted as the official one and a hundred copies were introduced in 1919.
However one year later at the royal birthday so did were the Görgenholtz family able to introduce a lighter and more reliable machinegun, which is the version that is considered the first real Martin, that were able to go into production. These heavy machineguns proved their worth in the battle of Imerbürg where the heavy ammunition and force behind the guns were able to cut through light tanks and enemy waves alike with relative ease.
It was also deployed in the heavy guerilla warfare in Taranaka where it sadly were able to win as much fortune and victories as it had done in Imeriata due to the enemy's guerilla tactics and quite a few of them were captured by the Rebel forces.
However despite the lack of success in Taranaka were the Martin a great success according to royal guardsmen and the Imerian high command due to it's destructive power and heavy punch that ripped apart light armour and infantry waves alike.
Over time so have small minor edits been made such as adding a new Flash hider to the barrel and new cooling liquid to allow for longer continued fire but the gun has remained relatively unchanged.
Construction
The Martin is a water cooled machinegun so the barrel is surrounded by a large lightweight liquid filled cylinder. The weapon itself is made almost entirely out of stainless steel with the exception of the aluminium made water cylinder, to avoid jamming and to increase the life length of the weapon as well as decreasing the training required to handle it.
The weapon is fed through a easily disposable and durable leather belt that is easy to reload and can as a result be used again and again. The weapon reloads through the aid of a closed bolt that operates on the short recoil principle.
