The Dochreidte-class was a class of seven aircraft carriers built for Royal Ossorian Navy starting in 1952 and were the first class of supercarriers built for the Royal Navy. The class comprised of the ships Dochreidte, Díograiseach, Righin, Spréachta, Misniúil, Dosheachanta, and Inchreidte.

Design

General characteristics

The Dochreidte-class ships had an overall length of 326 m, a beam of 40 meters at the waterline and 77 meters at the extremities, and a draught of 11 m. She displaced 61,000 t at standard load. Each of the ship's four sets of geared steam turbines drove one 4-bladed propeller and were powered by 8 boilers and were rated at 280,000 shaft horsepower. This gave the Dochreidte-class a speed of approximately 34 knots. She had a range of approximately 12,000 nautical miles at 17 knots.

Flight deck and hangar

The Dochreidte-class ships had an armored flight deck which was 326 m long. The class was fitted with an enclosed hangar, an angled flight deck, arrestor gear, and four compressed steam catapults. Four deck-edge elevators (three portside and one starbord) allowed aircraft to be transferred between the hangar and the flight deck. The ships' aircraft capacity was rated at 90 aircraft, but the typical flight group consisted of no more than 84 aircraft. The ships' crew totaled 5,500 officers and ratings.

Armament

The Dochreidte-class were the first Ossorian aircraft carriers to largely forego the heavy anti-aircraft battery that had been a hallmark of its predecessors, mounting 8 120 mm dual-purpose guns arrayed in single mounts around the perimeter of the flight deck. These guns were later removed and replaced with surface-to-air missiles and CIWS mounts.
