The Mark-7 'Kanone' (Canon), often referred to the trademark 'Kanone' or 'Mark-7', is a semi-automatic pistol designed and manufactured by Wolf Armaments. It is named ironically after the much larger, much louder, heavy gunpowder cannons that made up artillery units during the age of gunpowder weapons. The Kanone is the Commoner replacement to M1911 after the TECT Armed Forces put an order to Wolf Armaments to replace its standard pistol and pistol ammunition with new designs; most notably, leaders wanted a safer, high velocity armor piercing ammunition with a new standard service pistol to match.
The Kanone was introduced in 2009 throughout the TECT Armed Forces and government police agencies. By 2012, the Kanone was in the holster of most troops, police officers, and security personnel. By January 1st, 2015, the Kanone was the only service pistol of armed forces, police and government agencies, and had become a popular civilian weapon; its primary model and variants are far more common then other examples of modern pistols - the M1911 and some nine millimeter pistols for example. Kanone pistols have since been on the foreign market, sold by Wolf Armaments or its associated gun stores.
Design
The Kanone is made up of three parts: the handle mold, the mechanics, and the slide. The mold handle was designed to comfortably be held while easy to keep a firm grip on; the mold is preset and filled with a high-strength nylon-based long-fiber reinforced polymer that reduces weight and adds durability. This mold is set around a hard steel base during the molding process - this gives the Kanone a more durable and shock resistant platform that integrates four steel guide rails to bear the slide. Lightweight high-tensile strength steel makes up the slide, internal structure, and firing components. This build structure acts as a recoil compensator, absorbing much of the shock produced from the gunshot.
The slide and inner components, as stated above, are made of steel; the slide especially being made from a computer-milled mold that's perfectly imprinted and constructed to operate on the bottom half of the slide. To reduce friction, combat corrosion, and fatigue - there is a layer of iron oxide on the pistol. This is achieved with each component part being quenched in a salt bath, polished, and then quenched once more, creating a layer of iron oxide that protects the steel components. The barrel is a stainless steel rifled barrel. This steel was chosen over cheaper steel for their longer life expectancy, greater accuracy, and easier cleaning. The rifling is much smoother, reducing the chance of fouling; combined with the salt bath, the Kanone has exceptional lifespan and undeniable reliability in the field. Polygonal rifling and a maintained barrel thickness provides a superior gas seal around the bullet, which increases muzzle velocity and efficiency, and gives the Kanone easier maintenance. This barrel is threaded, allowing for the easy application of a suppressor or muzzle brakes.
The controls and features on the Kanone are made primarily from a black polymer (different color pistols being the exception); this includes the safety controls, sights, the slide release control, etc.. The safety control is ambidextrous with a control on each side that affects the other; a chamber indicator props out of the side of the slide (a pin inside a tiny hole) that indicates if the barrel has a bullet in the chamber. Kanone's push-button magazine release, located on the left side of the frame where the trigger guard intersects with the grip, is square-shaped and reversible for left-handed shooters. Sights come with two standard iron options; customers have a choice of the standard fixed sights with tritium-illuminated inserts or the adjustable "three-dot" type adjustable sights consisting of a 2.9-mm square notch rear and a 3.6-mm blade front, which has a height of 9.2 mm. The adjustable sights are targeted at ninety-one meters but can be adjusted height and width wise - the fixed sights are targeted at one-hundred meters.
Variants
Standard
The standard Mark-7 Kanone is the standard model described above that chambers the 6.48×28 mm WA CTA, a derivative of the 6.45 rifle cartridge designed for pistols and personal defense weapons. This model is standard among military, police, and other security/government armed forces.
FN 5.7×28mm CV
The 5.7 CV is a variant of the Mark-7 Kanone that fires the FN 5.7×28mm, a round similar in design to the standard 6.45. Among the changes includes a new resized barrel and modifications to firing mechanisms.
HK 4.6×30mm CV
The 4.6 CV is a variant of the Mark-7 Kanone that fires the HK 4.6×30mm, a round similar in design to the standard 6.45. Among the changes includes a new resized barrel and modifications to firing mechanisms.
Civilian
Civilian models of all listed variants are offered in civilian packages. While not able to affect ammunition in the purchase of a gun, the Kanone civilian models come with additional safety features and law abiding magazines. Civilian purchasers are supplied with a lockable hard case, a locking device and keys, a magazine release reversal tool, a sight adjustment tool (not included with the fixed sights model), a cleaning kit, an owner's manual, and three 20-round magazines (or three 10-round magazines, where restricted by law).
Simunition Conversion
Conversion kits are available for all models of the Mark-7; they include a bolt carrier (partly colored blue to distinguish it), blank-firing adapter for firing blanks, and an upper receiver colored blue to distinguish it for its practice use. The standard kit will also include a laser transmitter for laser combat systems to use; such systems would include individual soldiers carrying small laser receivers scattered over their bodies, which detect when the soldier has been illuminated by a firearm's laser. Each laser transmitter would be set to mimic the effective range and potential damage of the weapon on which it is used. Depending on how complex the laser combat system is, trainers can retrieve immediate results and statistics compiled by the system; such examples include readings that give medics a digital readout to determine which first aid method to practice and probability readouts. Using the conversion kit, the Kanone can seamlessly integrate into these laser combat systems.
