The World Assembly Delegate of the Grand Imperial Alliance (WA Delegate) is the leader of the Grand Imperial Alliance’s delegation, to the World Assembly. In the Grand Imperial Alliance (GIA) the position is more commonly known as the Ambassador to the World Assembly.

The WA Delegate is currently held by Indorian diplomat Rebecca Putney since November 26, 2020. The WA Delegate is in charge with representing the Grand Imperial Alliance and its interest in both the WA General Assembly and the WA Security Council.

Unlike other positions in GIA, which are normally appointed, the WA Delegate has to be a WA member. The country wanting to hold the WA Delegation mandate nominates a candidate. The candidate is then sent to the Grand Imperial Alliance Security Council (GIASC) to be either confirmed or rejected by a simple majority. There are no term limits for the WA Delegate. As long as WA Delegate has the support from the GIASC and the wiliness to do the job they serve at the pleasure of the region.

Many prominent diplomats and politicians have held the post, including James Bellamy, D. George Parr, Dominick Haps and Alexandre Savreux.

History

On June 30, 2012 the Grand Imperial Alliance was admitted into the World Assembly. After the region was admitted, Kazuko Tsukino, GIA’s Secretary-General announced the establishment of the Office of the World Assembly Delegation of the Grand Imperial Alliance to represent the Grand Imperial Alliance in the World Assembly. The office was headed by former Alexandrian-Prussian Secretary of State James Bellamy, who assumed the title of World Assembly Delegate. The official announcement stated:

“The mission of this Office will be to develop and grow the Grand Imperial Alliance in the World Assembly. The WA Delegate will represent the Grand Imperial Alliance and its interest in both the WA General Assembly and the WA Security Council. With the goals to help spread the Grand Imperial Alliance's ideas of democracy, human rights and the rule of law.”

Bellamy began his duties as WA Delegate on June 30, 2012.

Following a lack of progression by both Alexandria-Prussia and Bellamy, both Indora and Krakadarek agreed that both Alexandria-Prussia and Bellamy need to go. On January 25, 2013 during a GIASC meeting, Indora and Krakadarek voted to strip Alexandria-Prussia of the WA Delegation mandate. The vote passed 2-to-1. Krakadarek nominated Indora to take over the WA Delegation. That same day the Indorian government quickly nominated D. George Parr, a former Prime Minister, to become the next WA Delegate. His nomination quickly passed the GIASC by a vote of 2-to-1. Two days later on January 27, following some backroom dealing, the GIASC met again and Alexandria-Prussia and Krakadarek vote to remove the WA Delegation mandate from Indora and to reinstate Alexandria-Prussia as the holder of the WA Delegation mandate. Both of which where successful done.

After 6 months holding the WA Delegation mandate, Alexandria-Prussia was looking to step down. After some internal discussion among the GIASC, Gypsy and Osiris was approached by Alexandria-Prussia about taking over the WA Delegation mandate. After careful consideration and thoughtful deliberation Gypsy and Osiris accept the WA Delegation mandate from Alexandria-Prussia. President William Pepper nominated his top adviser Dominick Haps, to become the next WA Delegate. GIASC newest member Terran Novian Atlantian Empire opposed the appointment of Haps, claiming he didn't have enough international experience to do the job. But the Terran Novian Atlantian Empire did praises Haps for his work on the Gypsy and Osiris Peace Accords. Never the less Haps nomination passed the GIASC with a vote 2-to-1. But after 1 day with the WA Delegation mandate Gypsy and Osiris resigned the mandate. The GIASC met again and Alexandria-Prussia was reappointed with the WA Delegation mandate. With Bellamy returning as WA Delegate.

Alexandria-Prussia and Bellamy continued to hold the WA Delegation mandate for nearly 2 and half years. Bellamy made his desire to resign known to the Alexandrian-Prussian government. His government asked him to wait till they could find another country to pass the mandate too. After weeks of talks there was little to no interest from other countries to take on the mandate. Finally in January 2016 Rhomaia agreed to take over the WA Delegation mandate. The Rhomaian Empereur Hadrian de Lusignan nominated his former Foreign Minister Lorenzo Donato to the post. The GIASC was confirmed his nomination. After 2 months with the WA mandate, Rhomaia announced they where resigning the mandate. Following discussions it was announced that Alexandria-Prussia had agreed to takeover the WA Delegation mandate.

On March 28, 2016, Alexandrian-Prussian Minister-President Leo McGarry announced businesswoman Alyssa Packer Leid, as his nominee to become the next WA Delegate. Packer Leid nomination faced heavy opposition from most of the GIASC due to the fact that she had no prior experience in any type of politics or any polices making. Packer Leid nomination was confirmed by the GIASC with 3–1 vote, and was sworn in later that a day. Following the 2017 election, Packer Leid announced that she planned to resign as the WA Delegate in the upcoming weeks. She stated that she was resigning to send more time with her family and was ready to pursue opportunities back in the private sector. Packer Leid said she would remain as WA Delegate till her successor could be nominated and confirmed by the GIASC. But according to "multiple sources", it was her rocky relationship with both the GIASC and the newly elected Alexandrian-Prussian Minister-President Elizabeth McCord that ultimately lead to her resignation.

In November 2017, the new Alexandrian-Prussian Minister-President Elizabeth McCord announced the nomination of Noah Berman, her senior policy advisor, to replace Packer Leid. Like Packer Leid nomination, McCord was criticized for her choice in a candidate. Many criticized that Berman was far too young and did have enough political experience for what the job entailed. His nomination was later confirmed by the GIASC with a 4-0 vote.

After nearly 2 years as the holder of the WA Delegation mandate, Alexandria-Prussia announced they were looking to step down as the holder of the mandate. The GIASC had originally approached Arconia about taking over the delegation but they quickly turn down the offer. Alexandria-Prussia Ambassador to GIA, Jon M. Huntsman Jr. announced that Swaneburgh had agreed to take over the delegation and would assume WA duties after their nominee was successfully confirmed. Within a couple of days the Swanish government submitted career diplomat Alexandre Savreux as their nominee for being the next WA Delegate. Savreux was confirmed by the GIASC with unanimous vote.

Salary and other benefits

The salary of the WA Delegate is by determined by WA Delegation mandate. The WA Delegate receives AP$106,078 annually. The WA Delegation mandate section II states the salary cannot be lowered for an incumbent Delegate, any changes to salary with affect the next elected Delegate. The Delegate's salary is subject to normal taxes in both Alexandria-Prussia and their home country.

The WA Delegation mandate section II also states the Delegate is entitled to a thirty days' leave (not including their home country public holidays) during each calendar year. The maintenance, staff and services of the official residence (Delegate's Residence) is also paid by the WA Delegation mandate.

The WA Delegate has transportation and security services at his/her disposal at all times.
