The President of West Aurelia is the head of state and head of government of West Aurelia. The president is elected every four years by popular vote. The president serves a four-year term, with a two-term limit. The president is the commander-in-chief of the West Aurelian Armed Forces. All legislative bills must be approved by the president, unless it passes by a two-thirds majority, upon which it immediately becomes law.
The current president is Alexander Lee of the Freedom Party, who was served since 2020.
Elections
Presidential elections are held on the first Saturday in May of the election year, with the president and vice president running on the same ticket. If a candidate fails to win over 50% of the popular vote, the alternative vote method is applied, eliminating candidates until either one gains more than 50% of the vote or there are two candidates remaining (each with 50% of the vote). If two candidates remain, a runoff election takes place a week later. If the result is the same, Senate elects the president and vice president from among the two candidates a week after the runoff. The president and vice president begin their terms on June 1 of the same year.
Residences
The official residence and office of the president is the Stamford House, located on 1 Evendale Avenue in the capital of West Aurelia, Riverside. Named after pro-independence activist and the wife of the first president Elizabeth Stamford, the building was constructed in 1905 following West Aurelia's independence from Coldwater.
A secondary office, which also doubles as a retreat, is located 97 km northeast of Riverside. Named the Eagle's Nest, it is situated on a rocky outcrop located within the Paradise Mountain Range. It was constructed in 1939.
State car
The official state car of West Aurelia is a heavily modified 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600. The modifications include armor plating, bulletproof glass, an explosive-resistant fuel tank, run-flat tires, automatic fire extinguishers, secure communications links, on-board oxygen tanks, a sealed interior to protect against chemical attacks, night vision optics, and a non-lethal grenade launcher. The car also carries small arms, medical equipment, and supplies of the president's blood type. The driver is an experienced Special Detective Unit (SDU) agent trained in tactical driving.
