The Moderates in both Ardalia and the Pontanore would lose control in 2000 at the intersection of three major events in quick succession, all caused by or resulting from, the machinations of the now-banned Caropsyne intelligence service known as the Damosca. This organization had a dubious reputation when it came to being involved in the affairs of other nations, not to mention their own. In the weeks leading up to the conclusion of the Civil War, it was discovered that they had been secretly supporting the Ardalian Nationalist Front with financing and weaponry to fight the lawful Government. Ontop of this, the intelligence service had been influencing the Maldian Premiership and encouraged them to usurp power. The coup attempt failed but it permanently branded the Moderates of the Pontanore as nationalists. The Ardalian party managed to survive but most believed that their policies had weakened Ardalia. Between these, it was the subsequent election of the Pontanore's first-ever Socialist Premier that gave the Ardalian Socialists - who had been in the opposition forever - a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take control.

This organization had a dubious reputation for its ruthlessness and extensive involvement in the affairs of other nations regardless they were friend or foe. The Damosca was discovered to be actively involved in the armament and financing of the Ardalian Nationalist Front during the beginning of the second year of the conflict. The coalition government called out the Maldian Government and claimed it was a direct violation of the 1992 agreement between the two countries, demanding them to cease their involvement and recommit to the existing treaty. There was no change in course. This was because it would be determined in the last months of the war that Maldian's Government had been directly influenced by the intelligence services to make a series of devasting foreign policy decisions whether known or unknown to the Premier himself. In the early months of Damosca forces (and to an extent Maldian's government) attempted to overthrown the Caropsyne political system. The coup attempt failed and Maldian committed suicide. Elections were called in the wake of the constitutional crisis and the voters overwhelming elected their first-ever Socialist Premier, Miria Seranoda.

The General elections within Ardalia were called for mid 2000. This gave the co-leaders of the Socialist Party, Leno Frikasz and Ardor Raszan, four months to get their message out. Their party staff would quietly work with Miria Seranoda's campaign team and policy writers to develop the most ambitious manifesto ever presented - with considerable reference to her own efforts - and within weeks, the Socialists were seeing positive response from the electorate. The Socialists would go on and win 51% of the vote and with it the Premiership. With Tereza Darvas now leading the party, she secured the second-largest majority in Ardalian history.
With the Civil War behind them and the Nationalists destroyed and their organization banned by the coalition Government, new elections were called. Seranoda's election and the loss of general credibility for the Moderates in light of their counterparts anti-Government actions gave the Ardalian Socialist Party's best opportunity to take control of Government. Leno Frikasz and Ardor Raszan would meet for long nights with their election staff to develop the most ambitious manifesto ever presented to the voters to move Ardalia into a new age of equity, propersity, and peace. They would also quietly work with Seranoda's team to design the messaging they had used that got her elected. As she implemented her platform and the level of positive response from the Caropsyne electorate for them, the higher the possibility of introducing such efforts in Ardalia. In the elections later that year, the Socialists claimed a majority of the seats and took over the Premiership and continue to do so this year. Tereza Darvas became leader of the Socialists in the run-up to the election and in cycle to determine the current Assembly, grew the Socialist majority to the second-highest in all Ardalian democratic history.

This article lists political parties in Ardalia. Ardalia has a multi-party system representing the full range of the political spectrum.

A Short Political History

Ardalia's Democratic Party commanded a resounding majority of the chamber from 1910-1935. During the Great War, a national unity government was formed to see the nation through the conflict. In the aftermath of the war, political instability and paralysis gripped the nation. Though the Democrats still had the highest number of seats, they had attempted to establish coalitions with the Moderates, only for those to break down a few months later. Frenlo Letzek would overthrow the First Republic in 1945 and democracy would not return until his ouster and execution in 1983.

The Democratic Party returned to their former dominance in the aftermath of Letzek's regime through the remainder of the 1980's, however, their long-standing supermajories were never to happen again. During this decade, nearly a dozen parties were seated in the Assembly. The nation's economic conditions were not improving and despite the party's efforts to rebuild relations with the Pontanore, they had lost a considerable amount of their support. The Moderates, built on the principles of the Caropsyne conservative liberalism prior to Fostana rule, forced the Premier to call early elections. Ardalians were presented with an aggressive manifesto and a firm promise to ensure Ardalian-Caropsyne relations were fully restored within five years. They were swept into power and the Democrats were put into opposition.

At first, the Moderates stumbled and the Democrats thought they could force another election to regain their control of the Premiership but their hopes were scrapped to pieces when the Moderate Government was able to deliver on their foreign policy promise with the signing of the Treaty of Taerisz in 1992. In the following months, the Fostana reintroduced democracy in the Pontanore and their affiliated colleagues in Carops were elected (abet with a tight coalition). For a few years, conditions improved dramatically in Ardalia and it was beginning to look like they would dominate the next several cycles without serious opposition. That all changed with the outbreak of the Ardalian Civil War in 1996. The Moderates and the Democrats met and formed a coalition government to ensure a stable government to bring an end to the war and outright eliminate the Nationalist Front.

The Moderates in both Ardalia and the Pontanore would lose political control in 2000 as the intersection of three major events all occured in quick succession, all due to machinations of the now-banned Caropsyne intelligence service, the Damosca.
