After defeating the Tay Son dynasty, thw Nguyen dynasty set up their own nation in Indochina. They named it Vietnam and started to try to build an empire in that area. Gia Long became the first emperor in 1802 replacing the Tay Son dynasty's monarchy. Vietname eventually started to grown into southern regions of Indochina, capturing warring feudal states and uniting them under a new ruler. Vietname was able to resist being absorbed as a colonial possession and was able to maintain it's independence with reforms coming to help it survive the coming centuries. It turned into a constitutional monarchy in 1815, and Gia Long became a constitutional monarh as the name implies. Soon after, in 1820, Gia Long passed away, amd was succeeded by Minh Mang. Minh Mang is the current King of Vietnam and his reign has only just begun. | |||
