Marching Under The Banner (Jerkuan Viot: Tiến bước dưới quân kỳ, Jerkuan Jepon: 旗の下で行進します。) is a song, composed by musician Jitai Chi (1932-1985) in 1951 when Chi was a young soldier of the Free Jerku Resistance, which was a popular war song and later got was used as the national anthem of the Socialist Republic of Jerku and the second social democracy era.

As it was being compose, the song was called "A Flag Hidden In Dirt" due to their underground resistance operations. There are total of three stanzas in the complete song but only the first stanza was used for the national anthem.

Origin

In 1950, Jitai Chi volunteer to be in the Forward Resistance, most of the plans carried by Chi was to sabotage Rumaztrian supplies line or communication lines. In his work, he was partnered up with a fellow poet Ho Da.

During one of his operation on a train station, he saw a group of Rumaztrian burning the Republic of Jerku's flag as well as a small peasant movement's flag, he was quick to anger and completely destroyed a whole section of a train railway. Later that night, he wrote the first stanza of the song, accompanied by Da.

Many months later, he completed the second stanza, Ho Da described his working friend as "He was like an old man, crouching his back most of the times, writing lines of poet and then humming to the tune with his newly created lines."

As the siege of New Johr ended, he finished the last stanza, describing the win and the upcoming liberation. The song was published in Jerkuan Voit, which was later translated to bot Jerkuan Jepon and Jerkuan Enrish.

Lyrics

Jerkuan Voit translation

Jerkuan Enrish translation

The eastern plains had dawned

Thousands of green mountains overlapping

An immense and peaceful country

Dyeing red the shadow of flag, flying in the sky

These hearts are in harmony, under one song, in the wide rice fields

Sparkling the star flying on the flag.

Each steps we took, the mountains and hills shake

Honoring the victories of thousands years ago

Look at the blood red flag flying

The heroic roles burned in the heart

Forget about myself, becoming one with the army.

Dyeing the flag even more red

Maintaining peace, building the future

The new horizon brightens our troops.

Writing in our hearts, each steps we take.

Forever putting our trust in the Party

Our army are growing

The waves of people steadily walk under the flag

This glory is our army's victory

This is a shining banner light ...
