Succession to the throne of Skavand is determined by age, marital status and legitimacy. Under the Constitution of Skavand, the Crown is inherited by a sovereign's children or by a childless sovereign's nearest collateral line. To succeed the throne, one must be at least nineteen years of age and must be married by the age of 30. They also must be born within wedlock and their parents cannot have had affairs that could jeopardize the legitimacy of the heir.

The current monarch is King Liam of Skavand, reigning since 2021. He is the son of King Constantine The King Father and the late Queen Eleanor. He inherited the throne after his father abdicated due to health reasons. The King's brother, Prince Leonardo, Duke of Cordonia, was originally the heir apparent until the Royal Court of Skavand invalidated his claim to the throne after his mother Princess Matilda had an affair that was discovered after her death.

In the event that the heir apparent is still a minor, the other living parent (usually the king/queen consort) will act as temporary monarch until the child reaches age 19.
