Lilledel, officially the Free State of Lilledel, is one of the seven states of the Fallish Federation and one of the two states with increased autonomy from the federal government alongside Absaland. It is located in the north of the country, bordering Absaland to the west, Solland to the south, Sleafolk to the east and the Telmeric Sea to the north. The state is the second smallest of Falland's states by population, and the smallest non-Free City state, with only the capital of Sydenham having a larger population. It is also one of only two states not to have a Fallish-speaking majority, with the majority of the population speaking the Lilledic language, yet both it and Fallish are official languages.
The origins of Lilledel lie within heavy Cambran settlement in the modern-day area during their rule of the island, leading to a distinct Cambran-derived culture in the area. This culture was influenced heavily by the area's interactions with !North Germanic settlers and raiders, who frequented the coast of the area and left a notable influence on the culture as the native ruling class was displaced by a !Norse speaking one. The Principality of Lilledel would be created in 1021 and would retain its independence until the Seventeen Years' War which led to Fallish rule of the Principality from 1567 onwards, yet Lilledel would retain its own education and legal systems under the Nebligen Compromise. During the Fallish Civil War, an independent Republic of Lilledel was declared by nationalist agitators, yet would see little popular support after the creation of a devolved Lilledic government under the Republic of Falland.
The population of Lilledel is concentrated on the coast, with the coastal Nebligen—Sønderburg conurbation making up a majority of the state's population and containing the state's political, economic and cultural centres of gravity. While the coast was traditionally dominated by maritime industries and the interior was dominated by agriculture such as livestock farming, in the modern day Lilledel possesses a post-industrial, service-based economy with a large public sector.
