AleziRadio Festival of Songs 1980 is the twenty-third edition of the annual AleziRadio Festival of Songs. The competition is held by the authorities in Radio Zafizamarrah. This is the ninth time that Zafizamarrah hosted the event, after doing so in 1958, 1963, 1966, 1967, 1969, 1972, 1973 and 1975, and 1979 after Hariya Al-Husma and Tea and Sugar won it for the region last year. This is also the third time that Zafizamarrah has hosted the competition twice in a row.
The competition was won by Anita Putrianti with the song "Ada Masanya" representing Basna. It is the second time that Basna has won the competition after doing so previously in 1963.
The Metropolitan City of Zafizamarrah is the biggest urban area in the Zafizamarrah region and in North Alezia as a whole even to this day. In 1980, the population of the city reached 1,892,830 people. The city acted as the center of trade and economy between the regions of North Alezia, and also acts as the capital of Alezian modern culture and media, including acting as the place of the headquarters of the National Office of AleziRadio. Most of AleziRadio's programme and movies are made here, including movies such as "Fly, My Dear" and "Where Is The Night?"
Initially, it was proposed that Metrotheatre should host the competition again, however this was rejected by Radio Zafizamarrah and AleziRadio, not wanting to repeat their previous mistake of making everything "too same" as the previous competition. Thus, the host venue of the competition was moved to the Circle Theatre in the old Metropolitan Zafizamarrah, which was built in 1902 in the British Colonial Era and can seat 1,500 people inside. The unique feature of the Theatre is that it has a circle stage at the center, and initially, the organizers planned to utilize the feature. However, this was scrapped due to AleziRadio not having the technology to maximize the usage of the circle stage. And thus the circle stage was dismantled temporarily and the theatre's seating had to be rebuilt so all seats face the stage which was located on the West end of the interior. The renovation lasted between August 1979 to January 1980, in time for the competition.
After the competition, the interior stayed that way until its original circle stage and seating arrangement was rebuilt from November 1988 to August 1989. Currently, it is the oldest standing theatre in North Alezia which is nowadays the Alezian Union.
And starting from this year , Radio Pyalivostok / Daya Island commentated the competition for the Swedish language. A song in Swedish was also submitted to the competition for the first time. This is an inclusive feat considering that only 20% of Daya Islanders speaks Swedish as either their first or second language.
Beltou Rouslavanais returned to the competition after earning third place last year.
