The Third Lucis War took place between X940 to X943 between the Lucis Commonwealth and the Militarists who were lead by Charles Edwardius Eldercapt, whose intention was to conquer the Lucis Commonwealth, overthrow and use it to establish a Grand Military Empire and to revive the glory of his father, Idola Eldercapt, who was the leader of Niflheim during the Second Lucis War. Many scholars have called him as a 'mad man with a lust for glory and power.' The war ended with Eldercapt's suicide and the surrender of Hollenzburg to the Allied Forces.
