The name Mokaloa is thought to be entirely of Proto-Sokhainean origin and made up of "-loa" from "*lurab", meaning flood/flooding or large or overwhelming number in quantity, and the word "moka", which is related to the words for mother or breast milk. It is speculated that native Mokaloans' matrilineal, matriarchal, and social motherhood systems made an early impression on the arriving hedonistic and spousal-sharing Sokhaineans.
