The Order of Ainin is a national order and the highest currently constituted civilian decoration for valour in the Aininian Republic. The highest civil award is the Vanguard of the Aininian Republic, but it is only constituted during times of war and emergency. The Order of Ainin is awarded by the President of Ainin upon the counsel of an independent selection commission. Its military equivalent is the Cross of Saint-Honoré.
Established on the evening of 13 April 1798 after the Battle of Quatre-Montagnes, when the civilian Catholic priest Frédéric de Courtevoie led the newly-formed Republican Guard to decisively defeat monarchist invasion forces heading towards the provisional capital of Marlane-la-Prairie thirteen days after the Great Betrayal, the Order of Ainin was created to reward civilians who had performed great services to their community, nation or the world and was first awarded to Father de Courtevoie the morning after by Acting President Arnold Westwood. The Order of Ainin lasts for life and expires when the inductee dies, but may be revoked earlier by the President for malfeasance. A single posthumous award was given in 1924 by means of an Act of the National Assembly.
