Incumbent Republican Prime Minister Shinobu Miyake , who had ascended to the office after Earl Warren resigned to become High Commissioner of the Dominion of California to the Republic of India the previous year, won the election to serve her sole term as Prime Minister of California. Miyake remains the last Republican Prime Minister as of 2022 to carry San Francisco.
