Season chronology

Big Brother Ganji Islands 2021 is the thirteenth season of the Ganjian reality television series Big Brother Ganji Islands. It began airing on 7 June 2021 on Jabulani. Sonya Hasmati returned as the host of the show.

This season revolved around 23 strangers living in a house together isolated from the outside world as they competed for ɠ650,000 ($325,000). They were constantly filmed by the cameras set up during their time in the house. The season was pre-recorded like the 2020 season, except for the live finale, where the Ganjian public decided which of the three finalists would win the show.

The season was filmed in February-April 2021 on a former military island outside of Buju Town. The house was built specifically for Big Brother during 2019.

Format

The new format (2020-present) added emphasis to the competitive aspect of surviving the eviction process. Because of this, the housemates will be allowed to strategise, politic and collude about the nominations and evictions. There is no Power of Veto. The Ganjian public will decide the winner at the end of the season.

Nominations: Once every two or three days, the housemates compete in a Nomination Challenge. The winner of the competition has the power to nominate 2-3 people depending on the amount of participants. After the challenge, the winning housemate will be called to the Diary Room by Big Brother to name 2-3 nominees, and give Big Brother a proper reason for their nominations.
Eviction: On eviction night, all housemates must vote to evict one of the nominees, with the exception of the nominating housemate, who will only cast a tiebreaker vote if there is a tie. The nominated housemates do not vote when there are only two nominees. The eviction vote is by secret ballot, with housemates casting their votes orally in the Diary Room to Big Brother, and must provide a reason for their vote. The nominee with the most votes is evicted from the house.
Finale: The Ganjian public will vote for the winner at the end of the season when only 3 housemates remain.

Second chance

On Day 31, six previously evicted housemates took part in a Second Chance challenge (excluding Kamar and Jackie due to their personal reasons). The two last standing Housemates would get to permanently return to the house.

  1. ↑ Due to a technical fault found in Kevin's challenge prop, Kevin was removed from the eviction lineup. Due to this, he cannot vote in the eviction.
  2. ↑ Allison nominated Kevin after receiving a game advantage, despite not being in the house.
  3. ↑ On Day 11, Rosette got to invite one of the housemates into the bunker with her. The housemate would be safe from the next eviction. None of the other housemates knew this.
  4. ↑ On Day 21, Khalid won the house challenge and received immunity from the next eviction. Due to his immunity, he did not take part in the nomination challenge.
  5. ↑ Kevin had to cast a tiebreaker vote. He chose to evict Mitch.
  6. ↑ There was no nomination challenge on Day 29, instead the Housemates battled it out for a major game advantage. The winner of the challenge received an extra nomination point that they may use against someone in the next eviction.

  8. ↑ Rodany and Djakenny had to cast a tiebreaker vote as it was a tie. With a 2-0 vote, they chose to evict Camila
  9. ↑ On Day 42, there was no eviction. Instead the housemates voted for the Head of House for the next five days. The housemates did not know this when they were voting. The Head of House received many perks, for example: immunity from evictions for the duration of their time as the Head of House.
  10. ↑ Nova had to cast a tiebreaker vote as it was a tie. Nova chose to evict Rosette
  11. ↑ As the next nomination challenge was a 3v3 challenge, (Djakenny was already immune), there was an immunity challenge that took part on Day 46. Tamara won the challenge and received immunity, which also made her unable to take part in the nomination challenge.
  12. ↑ The losers of the 3v3 nomination challenge were automatically put up for nomination.
  13. ↑ Bentley was fake evicted into the "Refuel Room", where he can plan his next moves and take a break from the Game. The other Housemates did not know this.
  14. ↑ As it was a tie, Rodany had to cast a tiebreaker vote. He chose to evict Roberto.
  15. ↑ On Day 49, there was no eviction. Instead, the challenge winner nominated two people to compete against them in a game advantage vote. The vote winner would receive a game advantage called the Big Brother Eye. The Eye can be used to nullify all votes cast for the person holding the Eye.
  16. ↑ There was no eviction on Day 51 either. Instead, the housemates competed for a cash prize of ɠ20,000.
  17. ↑ The winner of the nomination challenge cast the sole vote to evict the last person from the game.
  18. ↑ As it was a tie, Bentley had to cast a tiebreaker vote. He chose to evict Kamar despite his relations with Roberto.
  19. ↑ Power to nominate one housemate for the next eviction and vote in the same eviction.

This season, the public got to vote for their favourite evicted housemate. The voting started after the last eviction episode ended and the winner was announced in the final episode. The winner would receive ɠ30,000 ($15,000).
