The Al Fathi terrorist attack is an attack perpetrated by the group Jama'at Lilda'wat 'Ala Tariq Al Salaf Wal Islam, an extremist islamist group in the afternoon of September 30, 1998. The attack aimed the Al Fathi Synagogue and the Jews entering or praying in it.

Course of the attack

At 1:02 pm local time on September 30, 1998, a car bomb containing an estimated 300 kilos of TNT exploded in front of the Al Fathi synagogue. The explosion killed 12 persons and injured 40 others. The synagogue was partially damaged.
