The Vengeance is known for its idiosyncratic propulsion scheme, being one of the first Arthuristan surface warships incorporating steam power to be laid down in decades. Given their costs and unknown viability, a far more conservative solution, involving the use of a combined diesel and gas propulsion scheme, as well as a pair of auxiliary boilers to power the catapults, was proposed.
