The Republican Party is one of the two major political parties in Arabi, the other being the Democratic Party.
The Republican Party was founded in 2016 as a rival to the Conservative Socialist Party, which succeeded the Conservative Capitalist Party. The Conservative Socialist Party was considered by the founders of the Republican Party to be a major failure due to the lack of power held by the party. No member of the Conservative Socialist Party was ever elected to the presidency and barely held any power in Congress, unlike its predecessor which had significant power.
The ideology of the Republican Party is vastly different from the ideology of the Conservative Socialist Party, wherein conservative socialism is no longer the major faction. Many members of the Republican Party are in favor of reinstalling the private sector and deregulating the federal government. Republicans believe the government has too much power over businesses in Arabi, specifically profiting from major companies without adequate compensation to employees. Republicans are in favor of lowering income tax, free market capitalistm, gun rights, traditional values, and higher military spending.
As of 2021, no person from the party has been elected to the presidency. However recent polls show the popularity of the Republican Party is on the rise, leading to many pollsters believing the party will possibly win big in the 2022 elections.
Political positions
Economic policies
Republicans believe in free-market capitalism, lowering taxes, deregulation of the federal government, lowering spending.
Environmental policies
Immigration
Social policies
Abortion
Gun rights
Republicans believe in the right to own guns and are against regulations on gun ownership. They oppose background checks, support stand your ground laws, and oppose a limit on how many firearms a person may own.
LGBT
Roughly half of Republicans support enacting laws to prevent discrimination against members of the LGBT community but oppose the 11th amendment which gives LGBT members the right to marry. The other half are in favor of laws discriminating against LGBT in most aspects of daily life. A small fraction of members believes in the death penalty for any person expressing their sexual orientation publicly. Many leaders in the party have stated they are against LGBT laws but will not take away any rights already allotted to LGBT people.
