As of 2022, the population of the entire island is just over 9 thousand, with 6.7 thousand living in the Island Territory of Mágædín and 3 thousand in the East Veles Territory.
Etymology
Veles Island gets its name from the old Slavic God of Land, Veles.
The native name for the island is Magdin which comes from the Gothic, which in return is what the Gotneska’s name is based on. The meaning behind Magdin has long been unknown but recently it’s been revealed to possibly mean Home.
