Helen Magnus (born August 27, 1890) is a former Prime Minister of Malgrave and current Chair of the Technology Party (Malgrave).

Early life and career

Information on Helen's early life is limited due to loss of documentation, however, it is known that Helen Magnus joined the expedition that would eventually form the Malgravean state in the early 1900's. Helen's work was primarily focused on helping establish the required medical infrastructure of the new country, however, she also branched into other areas of work such as engineering and eventually formed a friendship with fellow scientist and future Prime Minister Nikola Tesla.

Minister of Science and Engineering

The 1920 Malgravean General Election ended with no single political party gaining the appropriate majority needed to form a government. The Unity Party which had won the largest amount of seats in the Chamber of Representatives and the Chamber of Supervisors entered a coalition government with the Technology Party. Under the agreement Helen Magnus became the countries Science and Engineering Minister and the funding of the Ministry was vastly increased something which was paid for both by tax increases and a reduction in local government. It was these years that saw increased development of the aircraft in larger civilian roles, promotion of hydrogen to power automobiles and the funding of expeditions and research into currently known and unknown animal life.

Prime Minister

After many decades outside of government the Technology Party and Helen Magnus rose to prominence in the aftermath of the Second World War. Many citizens felt that the underdeveloped state of the armed forces technologically meant that the country was ripe for conquest, riding on a wave of increased nationalist sentiment Helen organised a campaign that promised to focus technological advancement on advancing the defensive capability of the armed forces and the industrial capacity of the nation. Despite the countries isolation from the international community and the unknown lands they found themselves in the population still quite concerned about the threat from foreigners voted in Helen with a large majority. Once stepping into office Helen quickly sought to decrease the defence budget slashing the amount of active troops in half she instead focused funding towards the research and development of new combat and industrial technology, seeking to both create a more trained and advanced force whilst reducing the current manufacturing cost of equipment.

Economically, the Prime Minister ordered vast nationalisations of businesses she deemed vital to national security and the work of the previous government was continued as massive public works continued. Helen easily won the 1955 Malgravean General Election further advancing the countries focus towards education, research and healthcare with some businesses being partly privatised in order to promote private investment in the economy. In spite of the failure of Operation Swift Helen Magnus retained a high-level of popularity in the country and could have run for another term, however, she instead decided to step down as Leader of the Technology Party before the 1960 Malgravean General Election and focus on her scientific career.
