It was derived from the Velikoslavian 3M strategic bomber design (ISAF designation: A4) procured during 2000s to provide the nascent Solar Air Fleet with long-range capabilities. The aircraft was developed with technical assistance of Oxidentale Jet Works consortium and incorporates several improvements over the baseline design, including using composite materials and new avionics.

First flown in 2009 an entering service in 2012, it is one of the largest aircraft in service of the Solar Air Fleet and the largest aircraft domestically assembled by Itayana yet. Existing reports indicate the production is underway on the Aircraft Plant No.98 at a slow rate. It is reported that the Solar Air Fleet maintains its strategic bomber force for stand-off missile capabilities, but available footage of various exercises suggest several other roles, including control of ground-launched cruise missiles and penetration operations. If proven correct, A6 bombers mark a major improvement of the ISAF capabilities compared to the older A4 bombers due to their advanced avionics and operational employment. However, penetration operations put expensive airframes at risk and it is deemed unlikely that they will be conducted.
