Mairs was born in Sudbury, but moved to South Gulf, on Manatoulin Island when he was just 4 years old. Mairs went to University in Port Manatoulin at Victoria University, where he received a degree in Business. During his degree, Mairs became politically active, campaigning for multiple causes including Manatoulin re-integration with the rest of the former colony of Angrosia, which at the time, was in the process of reforming and re-uniting as [[Timiskrane]].
