Early parliamentary elections will be held in Portogala on 3rd May 2023 to elect members of the 3rd Portogalan Parliament. The snap election was called after the fall of the Salazar Government, a three-party coalition, on 24th February 2023. The collapse was caused by the split of the Liberal Party and the creation of a new party - The Centre. This is the third parliamentary election in Portogala since September 2022. The election was supposed to be held earlier, but it was postponed due to the effects of the Third Great War.
Electoral system
The Portogalan Parliament is made up of 150 seats, and all are elected through open list, proportional representation on multi-member party lists in 6 electoral constituencies. Each of the 6 constituencies has a set number of parliamentarians that is divided through constituency results to ensure regional representation. To receive seats in the Parliament, a party needs to get a minimun of 4% of the national vote or 12% of votes in a constituency, in which case the party only gets seats in that constituency.
