The 2014 Saterocian invasion of Saroq, also known as the Wheat War, or Operation Golden Plains, was a military conflict that lasted from the 8th of May to July 7th of 2014, when the Saterocian National Revolutionary Armed Forces invaded Saroq. This was under the pretext that Saroqi aerial forces launched attacks on several border towns, resulting in two civilian deaths and dozens of injuries, but Saroqi sources have so far refuted these claims. The overthrow of popular president Verditis Slachmas and subsequent occupation of Saroq, still ongoing to this day, has led to the deaths of an estimated 87,000 civilians due to either having been killed by military forces or being starved to death purposefully. On the Saterocian side, less than 350 soldiers were killed, many due to friendly fire incidents, however the occupation led to a brutal insurgency period for several years before calming down after the 2019 revolution.
Due to their gargantuan forces, Saterocian forces were quickly able to overpower most Saroqi forces, which were unprepared in general compared to the Saterocian troops. Despite mounting some resistance, Saterocian forces eventually overcame Saroqi defenses after winning the Battle of Elmonton on May 13th, and after that Sateroc finished up its brutal invasion by clearing out any pockets of resistance. On July 7th, the conflict was considered over after Slachmas, who was captured just days earlier, was publicly executed in Elmonton's central square.
