The Royal Armoured Corps (RAC) is a Corps of the Gallambrian Army which provides the Gallambrian Armed Forces' armour capability. Armour combines firepower, mobility, protection and networked situational awareness to generate shock action and overmatch in close combat. Armour is an essential element of the combined arms approach that is employed by the Gallambrian Army.

Role

The role of the Royal Armoured Corps is to locate, identify, destroy or capture the enemy, by day or night, in combination with other arms, using fire and manoeuvre.

Organisation

To perform this role and associated functions RAC units are organised as either:

  • Heavy Armoured - contains three tank squadrons and one support squadron.
  • Armoured Cavalry - contains three cavalry squadrons and one support squadron, which provides mounted close combat, reconnaissance, surveillance and security to a Combat Brigade.
  • Light Cavalry - contains light cavalry and protected mobility squadrons, which provide mounted and dismounted reconnaissance, surveillance and protected mobility to a Combat Brigade.

Equipment

RAC Units are equipped primarily with the following vehicle types:

  • Taipan M3A7 - The Taipan is Gallambria's Main Battle Tank (MBT), which equips Regular Army armoured regiments. The Taipan MBT is due to be replaced by the Malya MBT, pending final operational capability testing and on-going investigations into corruption within the Defence procurement agency, Capability and Sustainment Group.
  • Gallambrian Service Light Armoured Vehicle (GSLAV) - The GSLAV is Gallambria's Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle (CRV), which equips Regular Army regiments. The GSLAV will be replaced by the Karrek AMV from 2020.
  • M3A5R Walan - The Walan is Gallambria's Armoured recovery vehicle (ARV)
  • Manida H-PMV - The Manida is Gallambria's Heavy Protected Mobility Vehicle (H-PMV) which is used to proved protected lift by Army Reserve regiments.

Training

The School of Armour provides mounted combat training to soldiers in the Gallambrian Army and selected individuals from abroad. It designs and executes both tactical and technical training for armoured crew who specialise in either the Armoured, Cavalry or Armoured Mobility career streams. Training at the School of Armour is conducted in the following wings:

  • Communications Wing
  • Corps Training Wing
  • Driving and Servicing Wing
  • Gunnery Wing
  • Tactics Wing
  • Combat Command Wing

Present Day

Being a corps, the RAC is made up of several independent regiments, but also has responsibility for a number of independent units, which include:
