Kalea Apekalmoa is the founder of [[Kalea]]. He was born in [[Kamea]], [['Akau]], [[Kalea Confederation|Kalea]] on January 9th, 1742. He had a dream of unifying the three major tribes of the [[Kalea Confederation|Kalean]] islands to bring their common culture together, provide reparations for years of oppression, and to thwart possible aspirations of foreign powers subjugating the [[Kalea Confederation|Kalean]] people. He proposed that each major tribal leader be given sovereignty over a select geographical region of the [[Kalea Confederation|Kalean]] island chain, and subsequently, all those within their tribe and minor tribes inhabiting the islands, reestablishing the provinces recently established under the former republic as the three provinces of the Confederation: Ho'olua, 'Akau and Hema. 9 January, 1783 is the day when [[Kalea Confederation|Kalea]] was officially established as a Confederation and when the national holiday [["Celebration of Confederation"]] occurs to commemorate the founding of [[Kalea Confederation|Kalea]] and honor its founder. Apekalmoa also is also the creator of the modern [[wikipedia:Hawaiian language|Kalean language]] (''ʻŌlelo Kalea'') through his establishment of the first Kalean-language constitution in 1839.
