Government-wise, Abydos is not the capital of the County of Kazdel, in contrast to its history as the imperial capital and centre of the once-powerful Kazdelian empire. After Kazdel rejoined [[Illusia and Neverendia]] in 2047, officials designated nearby [[Leandertown]] as the county capital in order to capitalise on Abydos as the former Imperial Capital, citing heritage reasons and to avoid confusion.
The city is a major crossroad in the Illuverendian world. [[Abydos Harbour]] is one of the largest ports within the Ravenhearst Bay area.

Abydos (Ancient Kazdelian: Άβυδος; Abydus), formally the Most Serene Imperial Capital City of Abydos, is the largest city of Kazdel, and the fifth-largest Illuverendian city. From a 2056 census, the city has a population of 11.65 million. It is located on the western shores of Ravenhearst Bay, and is the country's westernmost largest city.

Established in 3100 BCE, it became the capital of the Kazdelian Empire 100 years later. Abydos is the oldest Illuverendian city that has been continuously inhabited, and the oldest city in the Southeast Anean region. As an Imperial city, Abydos housed the Grand Parliament of Kazdel, the first-ever dated legislative system within Southeast Anea, which oversaw the affairs of the Kazdelian Empire. The prestige as the Empire's centre allowed Abydos to maintain a gigantic amount of its heritages: the Parliament Pantheon, the city's Imperial Citadel, the city's old town district, which has accurate reproductions of Kazdel housing from the days of the Empire, and Kazdelian architecture that is scattered all over the city, which has seen multiple changes as years progressed. Multiple Illuverendian laws heavily stipulate extensive protection and preservation of Abydos's image, allowing tourism to be the city's second prime source of economic opportunities.

The city is a major crossroad in the Illuverendian world. Abydos Harbour is one of the largest ports within the Ravenhearst Bay area.
