The prime minister was initially a fused role as both head of government and head of state, especially as exercised by first prime minister Remy Warnot from 1933 to 1948. In 1971, the Constitution split the executive, judiciary and legislature, and the prime minister was now nomially lower than the [[Premier of Auzance|Premier]] in rank.
