MalMart is a state-run supermarket chain based in the United Kingdom of Malgrave. It was established by the coalition government of Jozef Wajda in 1933 shortly after the Great Exodus in order to distribute food and had since expanded to become the largest grocery chain in the country.

History

Following the re-settlement of the Malgravean people in 1933, the coalition government of Jozef Wajda established several new state-managed enterprises in an attempt to organise the redevelopment of the state in its new homeland. MalMart was formed early on during this process, as a way to distribute food and other items to the population as part of a newly organised rationing process.

In the 1950's following the ease of restrictions and the gradual abandonment of the rationing system, MalMart was authorised to start selling their produce and began a period of expansion resulting in the corporation ceasing to require subsidies from the state to operate.

MalMart was set to be one of the state-run companies privatised in 1975 by Prime Minister Adalbert Kaczmarek, however, a combination of pressure from the Most Illustrious Glorious Confederation of Proud Malgravean Proletarians (MIGCPMP) and people within his own cabinet led to these plans being called. In the early 90's these proposals were once again considered but were stopped following the assassination of Prime Minister Alicja Kowalska in the 1994 Karlino Central Station Bombing and the victory of the Technology Party in the 1994 Malgravean Emergency General Election.

In the Lost Decade MalMart was one of the hardest hit state-run company, and the corporation temporarily closed several locations in order to reduce costs, however, the end of the economic crisis and the rapid state-backed expansion of the company has led to it becoming one of its most important economic assets.

AlcoMal

Prior to 1953 alcohol was allowed to be sold by grocery cooperatives and small independent chains, however, following a review of practices in the same year by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Social Solidarity it was decided that this should be monopolised by the state, with all alcohol above 2% ABV being sold through AlcoMal.

Expansion

In the midst of the Lost Decade MalMart worked with other state-run companies to work on a strategy of international expansion to prepare for the end of isolationism. Since 2000 MalMart has worked to implement this strategy, although, unlike other brands like MalTec which has sought to expand under its own branding MalMart has tended to buy up several international supermarket brands in other countries to expand its operations.

MalMart is seen as a crucial part of Malgravean foreign policy and economic planning, as it doesn't just employee a large number of workers both within and outside Malgrave but because it generates substantial revenues which are used by the Malgravean government to finance research projects and the state pension system. Due to this perceived importance it tends to work with officials at the Foreign Ministry such as Seo Yi-kyung and Salka Tiraboschi during planned expansions within Mystria and the Dornalian Republic.

Since 2013 MalMart has expanded under its own name in the Republic of Breheim. It is presently one of the smallest MalMart branches in terms of employees but is unique in that it predominantly Breheimian goods. MalMart has also invested in local Breheimian agriculture to finance efforts to help Malgravean migrants in the country and it prides itself on its good relations with Breheimian producers. In the same year MalMart also started attempts to expand in D'hɑlbrisir under its own branding, although, unlike other stores those in D'hɑlbrisir are worker-run with the model since being utilised in Sorrelia following their revolution.

In 2018 MalMart expanded into the Takshistan market opening in select locations across the country and working to provide support to areas hit by the earthquake that had devastated the country in the previous year. MalMart also started efforts to expand into the Aravean market in the same year, as present MalMart operates under its own branding put efforts have been made to try and find a suitable partner to purchase as typical in other Mystrian nations.

A couple of years later MalMart formed a partnership with the Royal Glaristant Grocer's League to enter into the Glaristanti market, since then it has been reported in the Royal Malgravean Times that MalMart has faced stiff competition from local firms but insiders are confident that continued operations in the country will ultimately prove successful.

MalMart operations in Silverdale were majorly disrupted due to the Silverdalean crisis, however, they have since been reorganised under a new subsidiary called Icemart. Icemart has diverted a large portion of profits in the country to charitable efforts and through assistance with MalInv has also helped finance repairs to a few major Silverdalean ports.

In theory MalMart could be much more profitable, however, the pledge of the company to follow the principles of social solidarity by keeping prices affordable alongside their contributions to R&D funding, state pensions and a collective MalInv investment pool means that this potential will not be met.
