Dr. Jacob Groeneveld is a Vaillais politician and economist who served as nth Prime Minister of Vailleux from 1994 until 2004. Groeneveld earned his Ph.D in macroeconomics from the Université Porte-Calme in 1986 at the age of 24 and joined the university faculty after graduation. In 1990, he was elected to the [ASSEMBLY NAME TBD] as a member of the Parti Socialiste Démocrate de Vailleux (PSD). In 1992, he became the party's leader. During the special election of 1994 in the wake of near-universal popular disillusionment in the two major Vaillais parties in the wake of the Sulekhi nuclear affair that led to Antonin Christophe's resignation, the PSD unexpectedly won a plurality in the assembly; Groeneveld, as the party's leader, became prime minister of a broad coalition that included many left-wing fringe parties as well as Le Nouveau Comité. He is the first Vaillais premier to come from [X DUTCH MAJORITY REGION], and the first to come from a party other than the mainstream Le Nouveau Comité or Parti Vaillais parties.
Groeneveld is most recognized for his leadership in the wake of the Sulekhi nuclear crisis and the Millennium Crash, which saw him implement major transparency measures and sunset many of the protective economic measures first implmemented under Hugo. His administration saw a noticeable shift towards a more democratic socialist economic policy and strengthening of the social safety net. In spite of high approval ratings, Groeneveld, known as a standoffish and confrontational individual, was unpopular among his fellow politicians and partymembers. He eventually lost a leadership election in 2004 and resigned both the premiership and his office not long afterwards. Since retiring from politics, he has returned to the Université Porte-Calme.
