Mongonoids

Mongonoids {Deriving from Mongo, a planet} are living creatures from the planet Mongo. They are characterized by only consuming water and radiation, and the presence of several unique organs, such as the Theote. Their alien characteristics distinguish them from any creature native to Sparkalia. Perhaps most notable is that they are NES(Non-Evolutionary/Evolving Species). They are also all inherently slightly anti-magical in nature.

Mongonoids are diverse in size, including creatures such as the colossal Asceoloth and the humble Sima. Making up the entire animal ecosystem of Mongo, they were created by Atol/Tao, and thus are known as Atol/Tao’ic species, alongside their plantlike cousins, the Mongonaeds.

Due to their diverse nature, it is hard to pin down a basic form for Mongonoids, but some patterns do form. Most notable, since it is visible externally, is the “Dels”, which all Mongonoids possess. The most advanced Mongonoids generally are Bosmatic{from Bōsm(singular)Bōsmas(plural}, meaning that the mother produces Lēomena, which is used in a similar way as milk is in mammals. This grouping includes Asceoloth and the Mongons.

Etymology

Mongonoid derives from the name of the planet they originate from, the rogue planet Mongo. The -oid is used for the animal species of the planet. In Mongonaeds, the -aeds refers to the plantlike species on Mongo. Both are Atol/Tao’ic, as they were created by Tao, with “ic” standing for “is created), meaning, “By Atol/Tao the (x creature) is created.

Habitat

Due to the Domain, there are at least two known planets upon which Mongonoids reside. The first is their planet of origin, Mongo. The second is Sparkalia, where the Domain is located. No other locations are known to the citizens of the Domain.

Mongo

On Mongo, the planet is extremely radioactive, providing an environment that allows Mongonoids to thrive. It is also covered in fairly large amounts of water, with much of the water criss crossing over the land, allowing easy access to water for the Mongonoids. With these being the two necessities of Mongon sustenance, the planet is effectively perfect for them.

Sparkalia

On Sparkalia, such is not quite the case. While the Mongons succeeded in creating the Glowing Coast, and as a semi-byproduct, the Glowing Sea, this is only a small portion of Sparkalia. While water is common enough throughout Sparkalia, and the ability of Mongonoids to drink from both salt and freshwater increases the easily usable amount of water, the vast majority of the water on Sparkalia is not-irradiated enough for the Mongonoids to subsist on. Thus the Mongonoids are limited to an area of Sparkalia known as either the Glowing Coast when referring to the land, or the Glowing Sea when referring to the oceanic portions of it. These areas are not as extreme as Mongo, but are irradiated enough to be described as “totally” irradiated. All native creatures within them either died off or adapted to survive, while some creatures near these areas grew to be somewhat resistant to the lower levels of radiation which they faced.

Classifications

Mongonoids, due to their created nature, do not have an evolutionary pattern to track. However, many bear similarities, and some can even reproduce with each other, and these traits are used to group the species together.

All Mongonoids were originally created upon the planet Mongo, or are a hybridization of some other Mongonoid(s). All known Mongonoids are Atol/Tao’ic, as well as being NES. All require both water and radiation to survive. All are, in some way, be it slight or extreme, “tainted” by the anti-magic of Atol/Tao in some way, so that they have a degree of anti-magic inherent to them.

Mongonoids which produce Lēomena, the Mongonoid equivalent of milk, are known as Bōsmatic. It derives its name from the Bōsmas, the organs which produce Lēomena. All Bosmatic species have the females of their kind, and only the females possess Bōsm(as) and the ability to produce Lēomena. Species which lack these traits are simply known as non-Bōsmatic.

The most well known of all the Mongonoids are the Mongons. Mongons make up the truly “sapient” Mongonoid species. Moreover, they are capable of interbreeding with one another. Only the Sweoloth, Aureoloth, and Dóceoloth are considered Mongons.

Biology

The most visible feature which distinguishes a Mongonoid from other creatures is their Dels. However, much more important to what actually makes them different is what is within the Mongonoids. Here their organs vary, though some are mostly the same and thus share the same name.

Organs

Mongonoids in some ways are similar to the average mammals, or reptile, when it comes to their organs, but are missing others. Like mammals, reptiles, and other similar creatures, all Mongonoids possess both a heart and lungs. These generally work in about the same way as those of mammals do.

As they do not consume food, Mongonoids lack intestines, a stomach, and other such related organs. In place of a stomach they have a large water organ, called a Theote. It hydrates Mongonoids by getting the water into them, alongside being a fast and effective way for them to consume radiation, instead of having to passively absorb it. The Theote also replaces the kidneys, filtering their waste fluid for them. Despite lacking a need to consume food, Mongonoids possess sharp fangs, which are designed for combat, not consumption.

In place of a Liver Mongonoids have an organ called the Drenc. It acts similar to a liver, except it specializes in dealing with the radiation inside of the Mongons. It works in tandem with the Theote of Mongonoids.

All Mongonoids, large and small, possess a Dels. The Dels is over their flesh, both inside and outside their body, and serves several roles, though this varies depending on the species of Mongonoids. Mongonoids possess an organ known as a Throsm, which can produce slow moving and high radioactive gasses. In many Mongonoids, they use it to partially inflate parts of their bodies. In creatures such as the Sima this occurs very little, as they have fairly tight bodies. However, in Mongons they have more room, and thus produce more gasses from their Throsm.

The Bōsm is an organ which is found in many Mongons, though some Mongonoids, such as the Sima, lack it altogether. Most Mongonoids which have a Bōsm have more than one, in which case they are referred to as Bōsmas. The Bōsm can only be found in female Mongonoids, and is the equivalent of a mammals mammary gland. Instead of milk it produces Lēomena , which is a watery radioactive fluid used to nurse young Mongonoids. Due to being made in a Mongonoid the fluid is slightly anti-magical, though would do little to a magic user, besides preventing it from being magically tampered with, unless consumed in large quantities, in which case the radiation likely killed them already.
