Elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate are often paired and referred to as general elections, while elections to county and city councils and mayoral elections are also often paired and referred to as local elections.
General elections

Traditionally, general elections included the election of all of the Members of Parliament (MPs) who form the House of Representatives. Following the Senate Reform Act of 2016, 95 of the 100 Senators who sit in the Senate are also elected with the other 5 being appointed by the President.
