History

Defense Policy

The defensive policy of the Velikoslavian armed forces revolves around the ability to rapidly invade and overpower enemy defenders with rapid armor movements over great distances supporting by air power. This policy primarily came from the period of cold war between Velikoslavia and Ludvosiya. Primary objectives include rapidly decimating enemy positions in rapid strikes by shock forces which would prevent enemies from entering Velikoslavia itself. Later after the breakaway of the Volskian Region and the warming of relations with Ludvosiya, the Eastern Themata Command was strengthened with an additional army group being placed under its command to extend rapid penetration and engagement abilities to the newly formed and aggressive state of Volsk. Once Imperial frontline forces penetrate deep enough into enemy territory, they are to be rapidly reinforced by the two reserve army groups. For prolonged conflict, Velikoslavia can call up additional forces under conscription.

Grand Army of Velikoslavia

The Grand Army is the oldest service branch in Velikoslavia, being founded shortly after its inception by folding the armies of the Principality of Kovno into the armies of many smaller boyars that contributed to the formation of Velikoslavia. It currently has the largest budget of all the branches owing to its essential role as the primary line of defense against hostile neighbors. In recent years, the army has moved towards decreasing the overall number of active personnel and spending additional funding per soldier in order to increase survivability of individual troops. The branch is headquartered in Saint Dumont at the Dodecagon. As of 2020, the army is composed of 201,203 regular soldiers and 150,000 reserve soldiers. These reserve soldiers run drills on a monthly rotating basis and are paid a sum but are not in full time uniform. The army also employs 13,000 civilian employees and 12,000 contractors to support its regular operations.

The army is currently divided into 25 separate divisions that are assigned to five armies which are assigned to four military districts, known as "Themata". There are also two other armies composed strictly of reservist formations and are manned by a skeleton crew and only activated in the event of war. Each Themata is commanded by a Lord-General, who is an appointed military commander who serves at the pleasure of the Tsar. The Western Themata is headquartered in the port city of Ustengrav, the Eastern Themata is headquartered in Vitesk, the Southern Themata is headquartered in Torla, and finally the Northern Themata is headquartered in Novstongrad. Velikoslavian armoes all contain Combined Arms Divisions, which contain command structures that can be broken down into independent battalions and regiments for smaller operations in order to avoid deploying entire division class formations.

Grand Navy of Velikoslavia

The Grand Navy is the second oldest branch, having been founded right after the army with the assimilation of the various boyar maintained ships. The primary command center for the navy is based in the port of Levograv in the fortress of Argopol. It has historically been one of the smaller branches of the armed forces and since 1960 has focused heavily on submarines. Currently, the Velikoslavian navy is considered a green-water navy with the ability to project forces long distances. It has X surface vessels and X submarines deployed in two fleets. The Great Nordic Fleet is the primary fleet of the navy and contains the most strength. The Imperial Northern Fleet is primarily a submarine fleet and operates Velikoslavian arctic submarine pens.

Founded in 1810, the Imperial Marines are tasked with providing support for naval operations and securing ports, beaches, and other coastal targets. They also provide defense against boarding of vessels and provide policing services while out at sea on individual vessels.

Coastal Guard

The Coastal Guard is responsible for providing protection, navigation, search and rescue, navigation, and transport issues in Velikoslavian waters. It serves as a law enforcement arm as well enforcing trade regulations and assisting port authorities in handling issues in Velik ports. The Coastal Guard operates 76 vessels, 35 rotary winged aircraft, and 10 fix winged aircraft.
