Red River Free State Army

The Red River Free State Army (RRFSA) is the land warfare component of the Red River Free State National Defense Force. Formed in 1997 after the creation of the Red River Free State, the RRFSA has two main missions: to counter possible insurgency in all forms, and to maintain a conventional military arm which could defend the republic's borders, making retaliatory strikes as necessary

Organization

Red River Regiment (all white)

• 1 Bde (600 men)

Red River Light Infantry (all white; between one-quarter and one-third mercenaries)

• 1 Commando (300 men)
• 2 Commando (300 men)
• 3 Commando (300 men)
• Weapons Support Group (100 men)

Red River Riverine Patrol

• 4 Commando (300 men)

Red River Hesperidisean Rifles (all black with white officers)

• 6 Bde (600 men)
• 7 Bde (600 men)
• 8 Bde (600 men)

Red River Artillery (1st Field Regiment)

• 1 regular battery of 105mm howitzers and 1 reserve battery of 25-pounders; white officers.

Red River Air Defense Regiment

• 1 battery of TA-78 air defense guns and one reserve battery of Bofors 40mm; white officers.

Special Air Service (all white; specialize in laying counter-insurgency ambushes and raids)

• 1 Squadron (60 men)
• 2 Squadron (60 men)
• 3 Squadron (60 men)

Red River Scouts

• About 1000 men, large majority of blacks; some mercenaries; specialize in pseudo operations, mantracking and abduction missions.

Grey’s Scouts

• 150—200 men, black and white; horse-mounted infantry for tracking, pursuit and patrolling.

Support and administrative troops

• Signals, engineers, pay corps etc, all white officers.

Red River Armored Car Regiment

• About 400 men, black and white; duties include reconnaissance, patrolling, convoy escort, crowd control and manning road blocks.
