The Commissions are the four specialised legislative bodies of Mel-akkam. Each is composed of ten members, one elected from each province, and has authority over one area of governance (social affairs, economics, justice, or foreign affairs). Each is led by a President, customarily the member for Mohenjo-daro Province; the president leads debate and casts a second, tie-breaking vote only if the commission is equally split on a piece of legislation. The commissions are elected twice annually, on the Vernal and Autumnal Equinoxes.
When the four commissions meet for a joint session, which occurs four times a year, they are known collectively as the Coordinating Council. The Coordinating Council is likewise led by a president; the Coordinating Council Presidency rotates among the presidents of the four commissions. The President of the Coordinating Council is Mel-akkam's Head of Government, but the role is mostly ceremonial, aside from their power to cast a second, tie-breaking vote in the case of an equally-split council.
