The Premiership, formerly Tristarbank Premiership, is the first division of the Lisander football league system.

History

Early Days and the Formation of Premiership

Football in Lisander dates from early 1900s, a time when the culture of sports clubs was flourishing in Lisander, like AS Virtus, Club Sparta and all of the clubs in The Soria League. The National Championship started to be held by the 1920s, under the guidance of the Lisanderian Sports Federation, and after under the Lisanderian Football Federation. It took more than 100 years to the Principality clubs finally manage the league themselves. By 2013, the previous iteration of National Championship, The !LIGA ( Oficially, I Liga, but the sponsor was Itel, whose logo was stylized !TEL) was losing in attention to an ever-growing Rugby and Basketball fanbase. The competition was in a sorry state, with most teams plagued by financial uncertainity. The 2011 season had extended itself to the following year due to the war with Brasilistan and economic problems caused by that.

By that time, Lisander was recovering its international ties that were severed by the war against Brasilistan, and the clubs started to spectate many league systems, in order to replicate and develop a proper league, run by the clubs that could defeat the advance of the other sports. Then by the association of the 10 teams then in the !LIGA (AC Kasandora, AS Virtus 1904, CA Oeste, Club Sparta, CF Thiéry sur-le-mer, Clube Naval de Sendas, Dawson FC, Liath Cuáin Chlub Peil, Racing Club de Soria and Shamrocks FC), backed by the FLF, Ministry for Sport and a major sponsorship from Tristarbank, among other sponsorships, The Premiership SRL, a private-owned company, was established to take care of the professional football in Lisander. Its first season happened in the following year.

Expansions

In the following ten seasons, with all the teams then in the three first levels agreeing to have its league governed by Premiership SRL, the number of professional clubs aligned and pushing for the inclusion in the ladder started to grow. The Lisander football league system then started to push up. Premiership started to grew, operating in a non-relegation system for the first seasons. The number of teams grow from 10 to 12 in Premiership 2, Then to 14 in Premiership 3, then Promotion and Relegation Started. The second promotion wave came in Premiership 7, when the number of Promotions and Relegations was defined in three per season, in order to match with the number of Qualifiers for the Liga B Champions Trophy. One relegation and three promotions pushed the number after 16. Then, by the end of Premiership 8, the number of the teams in each one of the three divisions organized by Premiership SRL and The National League is fixed in 18.
