The army is by far the largest of these arms. As a result, the Chief of Staff for the army also takes control of the entire armed forces, acting as chief advisor to the Ministry of Defence and the aide-de-camp to the First Minister. The armed forces are currently going through a comprehensive restructuring, replacing outdated equipment and ensuring the smooth running of a peace-time military capable of quick responsive action.

  • Total Personel: 799,190
  • Army: 407,141
  • Navy: 188,589
  • Air Force: 203,460
