Battle of Sacenbridge

The Battle of Sacenbridge was an attempt by the Supero Omnian Foreign Legion to seize control of the city of Sacenbridge. The battle lasted for 25 days and consisted of intense urban combat and naval combat. It is especially notable for the use of mass charges by the Sacenbridge Commune forces, being a major cause of the collapse of the Supero Omnian Foreign Legion's strategy for the war and being one of 2 major naval combats of the war.

Supero Omnian forces landed on the 6th of May 1958 expecting to find friendly holdouts and sympathizers within the city. When they attempted to enter the city Sacenbridge People's Guards engaged them and pushed them back. Attempts to push into the city continued, especially near constant fighting over control of the city's docks.

After several weeks of fighting reinforcements for the Commune were constantly arriving from upriver and replenishing their numbers while their charges had managed to push the Supero Omnians back and scatter them into smaller pockets. A joint operation between the Sacenbridge Commune and Egsnart was launched which consisted of an Egsnart naval force approaching from the south while Sacenbridge Commune vessels and anti-ship missiles hit the Supero Omnian fleet from the north. The operation was a stunning success and managed to cripple the naval superiority of the Supero Omnians and deny supplies to their forces in the city. They surrendered shortly afterwards.

Whether the naval or ground combat was more significant for the outcome of the battle is often debated today. The battle was one of the most destructive of the war, with high casualties on both sides and many civilian deaths and much damage to the city itself.
