The Sampo Pitkänen Opera House is a Valkean opera house in the city of Källälivi, also known as the Hesperidesian Theater.
History
In the summer of 1885, Ambassador Julius Granius Florens, who was a frequent theatergoer, received Gaius Manius's permission to build a theatre for Hesperidesians living in Källälivi. The building was designed by the engineer Colonel Gaius Furius Ruso. The auditorium of the theatre was decorated by the Paradise City-born architect Quintus Sura and the Valkean artist Matias Lehto, who created the ceiling paintings which depict twelve dragons, reminding onlookers of the national coat of arms of the Empire of Exponent. The construction was completed in March, 1888, and the building was named after Valkean diplomat Sampo Pitkänen, who served as ambassador to the Empire.
The grand opening of the opera house occurred on August 23rd, 1888, with Marcellus Brabentius's The Prometheans.
In 1889 the Valkean-Hesperidesian Opera and Ballet moved to the Sampo Pitkänen Opera House, and remains at the premises to this day. The opera house is also frequently used for guest stage performances of various genre, and the building also houses different offices, rehearsal facilities, dance studios and different companies.
