Guadajara is a unitary constitutional republic and a representative democracy. The government is regulated by a system of checks and balances defined by the [[Constitution of Guadajara]], the country's supreme legal document. The seat of government is in [[Guadajara City]], as designated by the [[National Assembly of Guadajara|National Assembly]]. Suffrage is secret, universal and equal.

The legislative branch consists of the bicameral National Assembly, formed by the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. The National Assembly passes laws, approves treaties and has the power of the purse and of impeachment, by which it can remove sitting members of the government.
