The Alezium : The Comprehensive Encyclopedia of the Alezian Union or more well known as The Alezium is a universal Alezian encyclopedia, completed in 9 volumes published in 2022 and still published and updated in revisions for both its' physical and digital forms by the Printing Press of the Government of the Federation of the Alezian Union. It is the successor to the Encyclopedia of Alezia which was released from 1983-1990 by the North Alezian Printing Press.
History
The Alezium's concept came to be when in 2021, Premier of the Alezian Union Sa'idah Mahmudaisyah announces plans for a comprehensive Alezian general encyclopedia as a tool of promoting understanding and unity within the Alezian Union through academic means. This became a reality when National Council passed Nakaz 7/2021 regarding "the creation of a comprehensive information database of the Alezian Union".
The other reason for the creation of the Alezium is the obsolence of the previous Encyclopedia of Alezia, which was solely built by North Alezian sources and still retained some of its' pro Iliyan-family points of view, which had become controversial in current Alezian politics.
After the passage of Nakaz 7/2021, the Alezian Government gathered Alezian experts from around the union in several topics and subjects. Ex-Premier of North Alezia Mukhlis Krasnaya Novogrody was elected to become the editor-in-chief for the Alezium due to the consideration that he "knows a lot about the Alezian knowledge and way of life and is a professional in regards to coordinating different experts from different sectors and different parts of the country".
This decision was popular among the experts from North Alezia, Mosin-Nagan, and the Pantabang Islands. However, Mukhlis' unpopularity within South Alezia especially in relation to the Reunification of the Alezian Union made South Alezian experts question the point of view of the future Alezium. In response to this, some South Alezian experts even threatened the Printing Press in an open letter to pull out of the project if Mukhlis continues to become editor-in-chief. However, after a secret personal discussion, South Alezian experts agreed to work together with Mukhlis Krasnaya Novogrody.
Format
Initially, the Alezium was going to be a solely-digital encyclopedia, considering that most encyclopedias from other countries has transferred and transitioned to digital media. However, a limited physical set of copies were also released and either became a present from the Federal Government to foreign dignitaries or select citizens who have contributed to the betterment of the Alezian Union, or sold for a high price by the Printing Press, sold only in the Printing Press online store for prices reaching US$ 1,495 for a full set.
The Printing Press receives criticism for hiking up the price of the Alezium. However, the chairman of the Printing Press Muhammad Salmanuddin responded by saying that the high price of the Alezium is due to the high quality, recycled paper used and also due to the more detailed information contained in the physical copies. Rumour suggested that only 3,875 people owned a physical copy of the whole full set of the Alezium, making it the rarest book in Alezian history.
One of the main reasons why the Alezium focused on digital instead on physical is in regards to how information quickly changes, making it expensive and time-consuming to continuously changing and revising the Alezium physically. The physical releases of Alezium however, also works as "archives" for past information that might change after the set's release.
