Suroikoia is one of the primary continents on Tecia, distinguished by its diverse geography and rich history. Geographically, Suroikoia is bounded by several major water bodies. To the north lies the homogenous Noroikoia, while the expansive Ganacier Ocean stretches along its western periphery. The continent's southern and eastern edges are washed by the warm waters of the Nansano Ocean. In terms of distinct continental proximity, Alteria, another significant landmass of Tecia, is the nearest neighbour to Suroikoia, and it can be reached by crossing the Nansano ocean. This proximity has influenced historical trade, migration, and various interactions between the two continents over millennia, facilitating early migration to Oikoia, and the transit of millions from Alteria to the country throughout the colonial period.
Etymology
The name 'Suroikoia' means 'South Oikoia' in the Carinansian language, and has been adapted across languages to refer to southern Oikoia, as a short form name, which has become the predominant term for the continent since early talks of Suroikoian unification. The term 'Oikoia' is derived from 'Oikeya', meaning 'central hearth' in the Nomati language. The hearth has strong connotations with the concept of home in the Nomati culture, a translation with this context in mind would transcribe 'Oikeya' as the 'brotherland'.
