Lantratova joined the Soviet Pioneers at age 7, an later joined the Komsomol when she was 11 years old. She was forcefully taken to Moscow at a young age, where she was practically raised by the Nomenklatura during the Civil War after both of her parents were killed during the Civil War. Once her mentor and alleged sexual partner, Gennady Yanayev died, she became the acting Premier just before she graduated from the Moscow State University.
