Elder Dragons (Chinese: 神龙; pinyin: shénlóng lit. god dragons) are the first dragons to ever exist on Earth. They are the progenitors of all the dragons alive today, and keep many of their descendants close to them in Broods.

Design

While Elder Dragons have vastly different appearances due to being created from different species, all of them share few traits. Among these are at least one pair of wings and a reptilian appearance. All Elder Dragons have a large frame in their true forms, with Fuzanlong, the smallest of the original five, towering over the human characters.

History

Origins

The first Elder Dragon to be created was Leviathan. Her remains were kept inside an underwater laboratory belonging to the Blue Civilization and has been studied for years until the civilization's scientists managed to bring her back to life. When they did, they also altered her physiology slightly to make her a more formidable weapon. Experimentations on her continued to the point of being virtually unrecognisable from her initial plesiosaur form and having parts of her body replaced with machinery characteristic of her captors' people. She first saw action in the battle of (placeholder) against the Red Civilization, which prompted the other four ghost civilizations to develop living weapons of their own.

The next Elder Dragon to be created was Pamola, by the White Civilization. Due to his creators' limited understanding of cybernetics (in comparison to their blue rivals), he was equipped with heavy power armour instead. It provides him with targeting systems, a deadly arsenal of weapons, and a powerful energy shield, among others.

Powers and abilities

Created with the ancient magic and the complex technologies of their ghost creators, each Elder Dragon possesses immense spiritual power, an extensive repertoire of techniques and massive Qì reserves. Adding to their millennia of experience, they are formidable opponents in their own ways.

All Elder Dragons are able to assume human form. As they were created long before Adam even existed, it can be concluded that this is a learned power, as opposed to an inherent ability.

Realms of the Multiverse

All the Elder Dragons can be encountered in-game as quest givers, NPCs, and optional bosses, with the exception of Leviathan, who is the final boss of The Deluge. Defeating them in battle has a chance of granting the player with their legendary weapons or armour, which provides general stat boosts and effects relating to the playstyle of each individual dragon.

Fuzanlong, Basmu, Pamola and Camazotz can only be faught under certain rules which vary by each boss. In addition, battling them with one character mentioned in their optional conditions list in the party increases the chance of earning a legendary equipment on victory by 25% for the first character, and half of the previous bonus for subsequent characters. For a list of these characters and the possible loot drops, see the article on each dragon.

NationStates Worlds

Leviathan, Basmu, Pamola, Fuzanlong, and Camazotz are featured in the game as Caster, Brawler, Paragon, Ranger and Rogue units respectively. However, they all have an effect that allows them to be included in the decks of other classes.

Creation and conception

The Five Elder Dragons were inspired by the idea of Elder Dragons in both Magic: The Gathering and Fairy Tail, as well as the Zeroth Dragons from Cardfight Vanguard. RMD wanted to create a group of ancient, powerful dragons and did so in accordance to the main power system of the franchise. Borrowing winged figures from legends creatures all over the world, he changed them to better suit the setting.

Aside from the first five, more Elder Dragons, these ones featuring two Qi colours instead of one, have been concepted.
