History
After seeing first hand the importance of aerial warfare during his time in the Second World War, Then Minister of War Aleksander Wulffe signed the Royal Talvistovan Air Force into being on February 1st, 1950, transfering over the men and aircraft of the Royal Talvistovan Army's 3 Air Wings.
Late 20th Century
The first order of bussiness of the Royal Talvistovan Air Force was the establishment of 8 air bases to hold a proposed 8 squadrons (3 fighter, 1 attack, 3 transport, 1 special activities) across the country. Once that was accomplished, the next order of bussiness was a rapid modernization of the aircraft in service, as the few propeller driven aircraft would be woefully insufficient in the case of another armed conflict breaking out. This was accomplished by the purchase of 12 prototypical Nation Aeronautics Company Sparvhök First Generation Jet Fighters. This then saw a massive boom in public interest in the new air force, making recruiting a very simple venture, as the public was awestruck by stories and demonstrations by the Englean Kaiserliche Streitkräfte, leading to a massive boom in enlistment, making the Air Force the single fastest growing employer of the late 20th century.
1990 to present
The Air Force encountered a new issue in the late 80's and early 90's: the fleet of now 36 Sparvhöks was woefully outdated compared to the advanced technologies of the neighboring Kaisereich and Belantican Air Forces. This was solved by developing a contract with Johannesen Airworks to develop the 3.5 Generation Pilgrimsfalk I fighter, making use of advancements in jet engines as well as Variable-sweep wing or "swing wing" technology.
This advancement helped to propel the RTAF into the 21st century, where it continues to be competitive with its neighboring air forces, which it intends to continue until further notice.
Organization
The RTAF is split into Air Wings, which are in turn made up of 3 squadrons. Currently there are currently 3 fighter wings, 1 Attack Wing, 4 Transport Wings and 1 Special Activities Wing. All wings are under the command of the Military High Command in Kvingandannes.
