The Technology Party is a Malgravean political party founded in 1911. It enjoyed electoral success in the 50s and 90s Great Exodus, however, it has struggled due to the Lost Decade and fluctuated massively in the polls since then.
History
The Technology Party was founded by Helen Magnus and a few like minded scientists and engineers, and the party enjoyed success eventually working together with the Unity Party after the 1920 Malgravean General Election to form government, with their party leader becoming the Minister of Science & Engineering.
After the Great Exodus, the reputation of the Technology Party didn't suffer as much compared to other elections in the country due to the perception that earlier reforms and initiatives spearhead by Helen Magnus had contributed in the ability of Malgravean forces to hold off the Imerians and orchestrate a counterattack which made the exodus possible. It was these factors that led the Technology Party to winning the 1950 Malgravean General Election, the first real competitive election and a campaign in which led Helen Magnus to become Prime Minister of the country.
Under the tenure of Helen Magnus, the United Kingdom of Malgrave experienced widespread modernisation with the development of personal computing and advancements in industry fuelling economic growth. It is also notable, as Rosalba Pontecorvo, the Minister of Science and Engineering and Antonio Santoro, the Minister of Health announced Malgravean Immuno-Deficiency Disorder (MIDD).
Magnus and the Technology Party were returned to power after the 1955 Malgravean General Election, however, the fallout of Operation Swift led to Magnus refusing to run for a third time and the party fell into a dire state in the following election which endured for the next few decades.
In a shock-turn of events, the Technology Party was able to win the 1994 Malgravean Emergency Election and Vittorio Bellandini became Prime Minister under an emergency six-year term. Vittorio started off his term in office by reversing some unpopular policy decisions made by the Conservative Action Party, implemented a series of works and laid the ground work to formalise the creation of the Research Colony, however, the continued poor performance of the economy led to his government becoming increasingly unpopular and the party lost power in the 2000 Malgravean General Election
Since then the party has fluctuated in the polls, however, it has failed to reach the success that it enjoyed during these eras of government.
Political Platform
Economic Affairs
The Technology Party regarded themselves as economically centrist as they currently support the status quo in regards to the state of the economy, although some in the party have called for more importance to be placed in three-year plans and the future direction of the economy to be entrusted behind experts and the result of academic research but it isn't clear how this vision would work in reality.
Social Issues
Like all parties in Malgrave, the Technology Party support the protections outlined by the 1954 Equality Act. Historically, the party has been split on whether Malgrave should remain a monarchy or turn into a republic, however, recent movement in the party has trended towards establishing an Ancestral Republic lead by the Lead Scientist of the Ancestral Study Group.
Foreign Policy
The Technology Party has historically suffered from a perceived lack of experience on foreign policy issues, however, on this front the party has called for increased cooperation between Malgrave and the Greater Civilisation. It has also called for a more proactive attitude from Malgrave in claiming Alteran/Lantean sites and has promoted the idea of establishing off-world bases around known Lantean/Altean relics to protect them.
